Cavs Getting Complaints From NBA And Doc Rivers After Resting Big 3

Tristan Thompson

Despite the normality of the situation, Cleveland's choice to rest its star players did not sit well with one of the NBA's greatest players. "So I don't feel like we did anything terribly egregious".

This is the 5-game NBA DL. The Cavaliers only play the Clippers once in L.A. during the season. Fans have to live with the prospect of stars missing games. That said, it all starts with the schedule - if the National Basketball Association wants to promote Saturday games like they are playoff games, then they need to schedule them like they're playoff games with rest on either side for teams.

LeBron James scored 34 on 13 of 22 shooting, Kevin Love delivered 21, while no other Cleveland player came close to delivering double-digit scores. "He was mad, but I just thought for him it was the right decision - not to go out there and try to carry the whole load by himself and playing more minutes".

However, LeBron's tune seems to have changed.

"We can afford anything; I mean you still have to beat us", he said when asked if the Cavaliers can afford to give away games.

"At the end of the day, it sucks at times where certain guys have to rest but certain guys need rest", LeBron James told reporters on Sunday.

Kyrie Irving bounced back from a cranky left knee to lead everyone with 46 points - his third 40-point performance of the season - going 15-for-21 from the floor, including 6-of-10 from long-range and a flawless 10-of-10 from the stripe. "You're going to have certain games where certain things fall on certain nights, but a coach's job is to figure out a way for their team to compete for a championship, not compete for a game".

Lue, Kerr and Popovich understand the truth: Rest matters and some games ... not so much. Ignoring that, he echoes the sentiment of many of us.

Cleveland had an actual reason to sit out their best players. A week ago the Golden State Warriors played one of their top competitors, and they did it a few men short. How many wins does it cost the Cavs if LeBron plays 35 minutes instead of almost 38?

"The league has to protect its product", Rivers said.

"That second and fourth quarter really hurt us as far as when you go deeper and deeper into your bench and when guys are sitting out, it kind of shows", he said.

"They played well against us, but I know our team and the way we are". I do it. We all do it.

Doc Rivers is torn on the issue. "I wanted to play last night but my coach felt like it was best that I didn't play last night, so I'm going to go with my coach and he's never steered me wrong".

There's no easy way to fix this.

There have been many questionable moves made in the past few weeks of play.
