Chief Justice Office Robbery an Attack On Democracy

Break-in at Mogoeng's offices in Noordwyk

The Office of the Chief Justice is the administrative centre of the South African judiciary.

Midrand police have confirmed that the Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) Mogoeng Mogoeng was robbed in the early hours of 18 March at about 2.48am in Noordwyk, Midrand.

The team is being led by Gauteng deputy police commissioner Major General Mary Motsepe.

"We condemn [the break-in] in the strongest terms; we have assembled a team of detectives to process the investigation".

The burglars made off with 15 computers, on some of which sensitive information about the country's 250 judges was stored, from the human resources section of the office.

Save SA's Lawson Naidoo says the burglary constitutes a brazen attack on the judiciary, and was clearly orchestrated.

"The break-in was reported to the South African Police Services (SAPS) and various units from SAPS were dispatched to the OCJ to conduct further investigations".
