Cowboys re-sign backup QB Kellen Moore

Tony Romo trade rumors for trade or release next month

Quarterback Kellen Moore agreed to re-sign with the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced Monday. He was of course slated to be the backup for Tony Romo past year, ahead of Dak Prescott, until everything went sideways in the offseason and preseason, when both Moore and Romo were lost to injury.

Rookie Dak Prescott, who opened the year as the No. 3 quarterback, instead took over with both Romo and Moore out and ended up winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and was named to the Pro Bowl. With Tony Romo sidelined due to an injury, Moore replaced backup quarterback Matt Cassel during a Week 15 loss to the New York Jets. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said earlier this month that there is no need to add another veteran quarterback if Moore is in the fold.

After a few weeks on the free agent market, Kellen Moore is sticking with the Dallas Cowboys.

"There is a reason not bring in a veteran quarterback because you got Kellen". There is a relationship.

No terms were disclosed, though ESPN's Todd Archer reported Moore signed a one-year deal. "He fits here real well".

Romo tossed -0.04 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back on 127 drop backs in 2015, but generated 0.16 Passing NEP per drop back on 684 such plays in 2014, so it's tough to gauge expectations for what will be the veteran's age-37 season.
