DHS Wants Proposals for a Border Wall 'Aesthetically Pleasing in Color'

US Seeks Bids From Builders for 9-Meter-High Border Wall

The north side of the wall, which will face the United States, "shall be aesthetically pleasing in colour, anti-climb texture, etc., to be consistent with general surrounding environment". The AB 946 announcement follows last week's U.S. Customs and Border Protection's request for companies to submit formal border wall prototypes.

Gregory Wallace writes the structure will be built to thwart penetration attempts and climbing aids such as ladders and grappling hooks. According to the contracting papers, a design must take at least an hour, and ideally four hours or more, for a person or group attempting to breach the wall by puncturing a gap through it through a variety of means such as "sledgehammer, vehicle jack, pick axe, chisel, battery operated impact tools, battery operated cutting tools, Oxy/acetylene torch or other similar hand-held tools", according to the document.

Below are the requirements for the "big, attractive wall". It does not address the aesthetics of the Mexican side.

According to the contracting documents as reviewed by The Washington Times, the wall design should be of a prominent height. Border Patrol agents are constantly repairing holes in the structure.

The specifications leave almost all of the design work to interested bidders, who now have about two weeks to develop and submit their plans, known as proposals.

So what exactly is the federal government looking for?

A workable choice could be pre-casted concrete panels, rising 20 feet high and set at least five feet underground, would extend 10 feet, and could be lined up with reinforced steel along roughly 2,000 miles of border.

Through the prototyping process, CBP may identify new designs or influences for new designs that will expand the current border barrier toolkit that CBP will use to construct a border wall system.

Customs and Border Protection said it intends to award multiple contracts based on responses to its request statement, but noted the aggregate awards would not surpass $300 million.

The wall - and having Mexico pay for it - was a central promise President Donald Trump made on the campaign trail.

Ah, yes. A hot and tall wall. It also includes a provision that contractors use American materials whenever possible.

"Californians build bridges not walls", Ting said in a release.

Meanwhile, Trump's budget calls for an outlay of $2.6 billion to begin work on the wall and another $1.5 billion for expanded detention, transportation and removal of illegal immigrants, .

Garcia said, "It is counterproductive to invest in projects that will not serve the best interest of all Californians". Those two phases would cost $5 billion.
