Federal Bureau of Investigation head says no evidence of Trump wiretap claim

FBI chief expected to deny wiretapping claim Dem says

FBI Director James Comey believes President Donald Trump tweets unsubstantiated information.

Mr. Comey has never publicly rejected Mr. Trump's wiretapping claim or publicly acknowledged that it has any kind of investigation under way of contacts between the Kremlin and Mr. Trump's associates. There has been enough speculation, and Trump should be pushing for facts and information to be made public.

Comey said the Department of Justice as a whole also had no evidence that Trump Tower had been wiretapped.

Despite the lack of evidence, Trump has harped on the accusation.

"Did you brief President Obama on any calls involving Michael Flynn?". Trump also tweeted, "The real story that Congress, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and all others should be looking into is the leaking of Classified information".

In his opening statement, FBI Director James Comey also discussed leaks of classified information. "Must find leaker now!"

Spicer asserted that no evidence has been presented to suggest cooperation between Trump associates and Russian operatives.

Trump's propensity for deflection won't be successful now.

The FBI Director would not confirm or deny that Stone was being probed, but even as the hearing was going on Stone added to the drama by tweeting "It's only fair that I have a chance to respond 2 any smears or half truths about alleged "Collusion with Russians" from 2day's Intel Hearing".

Typically, Comey continued, the F.B.I. doesn't "confirm the existence of ongoing investigations", though he argued that revealing the investigation into ties between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign is in the public interest.

"How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process", Trump tweeted.

"Who has leaked classified information?" Comey declined to elaborate further, noting that he wouldn't be speaking on an ongoing investigation.

A few days after saying Clinton's emails were being investigated, the FBI cleared her of doing anything unethical. But any possible damage to Clinton's campaign couldn't be undone.

That's according to Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., the only member from IL on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which is holding its first hearing about Russia's role in the 2016 contest. Spicer is correct, but the public needs to know if there is anything to the allegations.

"We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the USA presidential election", the report stated.

The question of ties to Russian Federation has haunted Mr Trump's administration in its first two months.

"Many of Trump's campaign personnel, including the president himself, have ties to Russia and Russian interests".

Trump first announced the unsubstantiated claim in several misspelled tweets on March 4. And his agenda might be on hold as the investigation continues. "However, while the indications of Russian measures targeting the US presidential election are deeply troubling, one benefit is already clear - it has focused wide attention on the pressing threats posed by the Russian autocrat. We have been closely monitoring Russia's aggressions for years", Nunes said.
