"Ivanka Trump Sued for Alleged 'Unfair Competition" by Clothing Rival

Ivanka Trump's Company is Being Sued Because Having Don For a Daddy Gives Her Brand an

In the lawsuit, filed in San Francisco Superior Court on Thursday, the 40-year-old brand alleges the Trump clothing and accessories label has gained an unfair advantage "from Donald J. Trump being the President of the United States and from Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared, working for the President of the United States".

The impact of Trump's election on Ivanka Trump's brand has been hard to unpack. Trump herself has since stepped down from her company, which nevertheless retains her name.

Ivanka Trump has been given an office in the White House's West Wing that was adjacent to one of President Donald Trump's most trusted senior advisers, according to a new report. While the lawsuit doesn't cite particular instances, a potential example would be the brand promoting a bracelet that Ivanka wore on "60 Minutes" in December.

The San Francisco-based company requests Ivanka be hit with a restraining order keeping her from selling in California at all.

In an email to NBC News, a rep for the Ivanka Trump brand declined to comment on the lawsuit.

They appear to have a case; fashion search engine Lyst revealed recently that Ivanka's sales between January and February went up 346 percent on the previous month, with the brand's chief executive saying they were "some of the best performing weeks in the history of the brand".

Considering all of the above, Ivanka Trump could emerge as the most powerful first child of all time, partially because she commands her father's attention when she speaks to him, a family friend told CNN a week after the president was sworn in to office.

The move takes the controversy over Ivanka Trump's brand to another sphere, flipping the brand's touting of its recent sales boost as evidence of fraud.
