Key Witness in Aaron Hernandez Trial Could Take Stand This Week

Critical witness expected to testify in Hernandez murder trial

The prosecution's star witness in the Aaron Hernandez double murder trial testified that the ex-NFL star fired the shots that killed two men in the shooting at the heart of the case-and then told the court Hernandez shot him in the face because of what he had seen.

Daniel de Abreu (left) and Safiro Furtado.

Hernandez also faces witness intimidation charges for allegedly shooting Bradley in the face in 2013. "Go!'" Bradley recounts Hernandez saying as they spotted de Abreu, Furtado and their four other friends walking back toward their auto after a night out at the club.

Prosecutors say the tattoos are a confession by Hernandez that he killed two men after an altercation in a Boston nightclub in 2012.

"He acted in a demeanor like a tough guy all the time, is the way I would explain it", Bradley told the court. "He was fed up with the whole feeling-as-if-people-were-trying-him situation, so he wanted a firearm to protect himself", Bradley said earlier in his testimony. "He had a problem with most things other people didn't have a problem with".

The key witness is Alexander Bradley.

Hernandez said that he hated when people "try me" or "try to play me", Bradley testified, so they left again.

When Bradley woke up, he testified, he saw "Mr. Hernandez with a gun to my face".

"Mr. Hernandez got mad".

The two then left the club and moved to another bar across the street, he said.

He said Hernandez put the gun he had sold him "inside the engine...under the hood" of the SUV. There, they again spotted de Abreu with his group of friends, and they believed they were being followed, Bradley said. Bradley said he tried to tell Hernandez he had too much to lose, but Hernandez just couldn't get the incident out of his mind, repeating that the men at Cure had "tried him". From the passenger seat Hernandez leaned across Bradley, stuck his arm with the gun out the window and yelled "Yo!" to the BMW, according to Bradley. He said they eventually caught up with the BMW at a stoplight, but Bradley said he never though Hernandez would actually fire shots.

He claimed he thought that, at most, Hernandez would just intimidate the men.

As they were lined up with the auto, Bradley said Hernandez told him to roll down the window. After that, Bradley said the gun began clicking, and Hernandez told Bradley to drive off. The concoction of paranoia and anger was a frequent pattern with Hernandez, according to Bradley.

Hernandez reportedly took off his shirt, wiped the handgun with it and threw the revolver out of the window.

Bradley said they then drove away from the bloody scene and onto the highway.

Bradley said Hernandez's cousin, Tanya Singleton, came to the house-and claimed Hernandez told her to take care of the auto. He told the jury that one of victims had bumped into Hernandez and greatly upset him.

Months later, in February 2013, Bradley said Hernandez bought him a one-way ticket to Florida to attend a Super Bowl party. In the months following the murder, Bradley claims Hernandez became increasingly suspicious of his surroundings, thinking that "helicopters were following him everywhere".

Hernandez shot Bradley between the eyes and then pulled him out of the vehicle and left him to die, Bradley testified.
