LeBron James fires back at people criticizing Cavaliers for resting players

Doc Rivers says NBA needs to address 'back-to-back' scheduling

When the Golden State Warriors rested Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Klay Thompson for an ABC prime-time game against the San Antonio Spurs the previous week, they were finishing a stretch of five games in seven days in which they traveled to NY and Atlanta, came back home to face Boston and then went to Minnesota the day before visiting San Antonio.

"They still gotta beat us, Lue continued, "teams will have to try and beat us, so I'm not anxious about it that much".

On the night, the four-time MVP was 13-for-22 from the floor, adding a team-high seven assists, six boards and a steal.

After the game, Rivers said: "There is a fanbase that probably bought tickets tonight to see LeBron James play for the first time". The Spurs are not in pursuit of the best record in the National Basketball Association but they can still catch the Warriors, especially if Kevin Durant misses the rest of the regular season.

After witnessing the Los Angeles Lakers almost knock off his own defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James was surprised. Five in seven are tough. Nobody thinks these guys want to take days off, but teams like the Spurs have proven that giving players strategic rest throughout the season can help players stay fresh throughout the playoffs - and it can even extend their careers.

LeBron wasn't necessarily happy about the decision, but he didn't make a fuss about it and respected the move.

The massive output comes just one night after the trio sat out the loss against the Los Angeles Clippers on the same court.

"The league has to protect its product", Rivers said.

The Wine and Gold continued chipping away at L.A. - tying the game on LeBron's runner with 5:06 to play and re-taking the lead on Kyrie's sixth triple of the night less than a minute later.

"I mean, it's stupid", Lue said Sunday before the game, via the Akron Beacon Journal. And I did it the other night in Denver. Just last week Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Stephen Curry were held out of the Golden State Warriors game with the San Antonio Spurs on ABC. It sounds so easy but it's not, because it's hard scheduling around that way.

And the Clippers are in the thick of it, along with the Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder and Memphis Grizzlies.

Clippers: Rivers flatly rejected a widely reported rumor of a possible reunion with the Orlando Magic: "I have a past with the Magic".

Clippers: Host the New York Knicks on Monday.
