North Korea 'conducts high-thrust engine test'

North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un

More than a month after the murder of Kim Jong Nam, the spotlight is still on Malaysia and its links with the reclusive communist state of North Korea.

In this July 27, 2013 photo, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un waves to war veterans during a mass military parade celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Korean War armistice in Pyongyang, North Korea.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said earlier in March that the United States did not want to get back into the six-party talks on the North Korean nuclear program.

The statement said: "The Korean People's Army will reduce the bases of aggression and provocation to ashes with its invincible Hwasong rockets tipped with nuclear warheads and reliably defend the security of the country and its people's happiness in case the USA and the South Korean puppet forces fire even a single bullet at the territory of the DPRK".

It also claims the cause of death was a "heart stroke" and accuses Malaysia of conspiring with its enemies to tarnish its image.

He described "a staged approach" for North Korea to stand down its nuclear program.

According to a UN Security Council report, UN sanctions prohibit institutions from "establishing joint ventures and from taking an ownership interest" in North Korean banks.

The leaders of the USA and China will hold a summit around April 10, but a breakthrough is unlikely.

"It's our objective for them to understand things only continue to get more hard if they don't change their path. All options are on the table". "If this process continues, the country will reach a tipping point where the people begin to stand up for not just their economic rights, but also their political rights". A spokesman for the agency declined to comment further on the north's potential threats, though analysts said it was a "dangerous" first step in launching a long-range missile.

North Korea's nuclear facility at Yongbyon is well known, but striking it could cause an environmental disaster.

U.S. aerospace expert John Schilling said the engine appeared too big for any ICBM North Korea was working on but would be a good fit for the second stage of a new space rocket it is planning to build.

KCNA reported Kim called the test "a great event of historic significance" for the country's indigenous rocket industry, wrote the Associated Press.

But the greater threat from North Korea is posed by its new medium- and intermediate-range mobile systems that are hard to track by overhead satellites and can be launched on short notice.

The DPRK has launched multiple projectiles in or near the vicinity of the Sohae Satellite Launch Station, where its Saturday and last September tests were held.

However, it might be hard to track down those mobile systems.

A South Korean expert on rocket engineering said the test was ominous.
