Ryan: Health Bill Owes More to Older Americans

Repeal and disaster

The legislation would replace the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, introduced by the former president in 2010. Still, the ACA dramatically improved health care coverage for African-Americans. They promised all Americans would have access to affordable quality health care. And for the first time in half a decade, insurance companies would be able to sell policies that provide less for more premium dollars.

Four Republican governors have announced their opposition to the House GOP legislation to replace the Affordable Care Act, another sign of the political challenges facing the bill. For them, health-care choice was never an option for individual American citizens - it was one-size fits all.

America is an exceptional country, and this pan is simply not worthy of America.

Another potential change to the health care bill would allow states to gain Medicaid funding in the form of a block grant.

While Republican infighting ensues over the bill, critics highlight the bill's potential failure to address critical issues for elderly Americans.

Tax cuts included in this bill could reach $600 billion. However, a 64-year-old person who is paying $1,700 for an insurance premium today (based on 6.4 percent of their annual income) would see this figure soar to $14,600 (55.1 percent of their income) under the Republican plan.

We refer to the Obamacare financial assistance as a "subsidy" in part because the amount fluctuates and is based on your income - the idea is to limit your health costs to a specific percentage of your income.

On the second point, if competition among providers would result in lower costs, why aren't prescription drug prices going down? "This is exactly where we want to be", the Wisconsin Republican said in an interview with "Fox News Sunday".

"Under the legislation, insurers would be allowed to generally charge five times more for older enrollees than younger ones rather than three times more as under current law, substantially reducing premiums for young adults and substantially raising premiums for older people", according to the CBO report. Defunding Planned Parenthood, which Trumpcare would do, would eliminate crucial health care services for women and their kids, including (but certainly not limited to) anemia testing, cholesterol screenings, physical exams, cancer screenings, birth control education, STD tests, and prenatal care.

Covered California crunched the numbers, and then we put them in plain English. "The president is bringing people to his table, and I am very impressed with how the president is helping us close this bill".

"And those people that you just described could afford to buy insurance, but they couldn't afford to go to the doctor because the deductibles were so high".
