Uber President Only Made It 6 Months Before Resigning

Uber president Jeff Jones is leaving the company amid turmoil

"We want to thank Jeff for his six months at the company and wish him all the best", Uber said in a stark statement.

Its former president, Jeff Jones, has chose to part ways with the company after less than a year as the number two executive behind chief operating officer Travis Kalanick.

In the statement to Recode, that broke the news, Jones said his leadership approach was "inconsistent" with what he saw at the San Francisco-based company. For business analysts, Jone's resignation had been predictable, since the company had just announced opening of career opportunity for a Chief Operating Office (COO) to work with Chief Executive Travis Kalanick run the company. A former chief marketing officer of retailer Target and executive veep of global marketing for apparel concern Gap, he was brought in get the ride-sharing-with-harassment-on-the-side company growing beyond early adopters.

While at Uber, Jones oversaw the company's operations, marketing and customer support globally. Instead, these sources said, Jones determined that the situation at the company was more problematic than he realized. Kalanick recently found himself the star of a video showing him losing his temper with one of the company's drivers on a security camera.

Brian McClendon, the aforementioned VP, has reportedly been planning to depart for some time, and will also remain connected to Uber in an advisory role. Mr Jones had been performing some of those COO duties. McClendon is the sixth high-profile executive in recent weeks to leave the company.

"In announcing Jones" hiring in August, Kalanick said the two had met at a technology-industry conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Jones spent much of the beginning of his tenure as the president of ride-sharing driving for Uber and meeting with drivers, after which he sent drivers an email about what he learned and what the company intends to do. Whether the intention to hire a COO played a factor in Jones' decision or not is something only he knows, though the belief within the organization is that Uber's troubles were more than he realized.

"After 30 years away, I've made a decision to move back to my hometown of (Lawrence, Kan.,)", McClendon wrote in a statement provided by Uber, via USA TODAY.

Susan Fowler, a former engineer at Uber, claimed in a blog post in February that she and several other female employees were sexually harassed at the company. Gary Marcus, who joined in December after the acquisition of his company, left in March 2017 and Raffi Krikorian, the self-driving division director left last week.
