White House: Trump Still Won't Apologize To Obama Over Wiretapping

President Trump was not backing down Monday from his claim that the Obama administration "wiretapped" Trump Tower during the campaigning, despite the Federal Bureau of Investigation director testifying that there was no evidence, said the White House.

On paper, these senior aides are in place to advise Trump's secretaries on the White House's take on policy matters.

"Just so we're clear, I'm not dismissing Paul Manafort as a hanger-on", Spicer said.

"There has been discussion of Paul Manafort, who played a very limited role for a very limited amount of time", Spicer said early in Monday's White House press briefing.

But those repudiations are not enough for the president and his staff, who believe there may be more down the rabbit hole.

The news that Trump's former campaign chairman is wanted for questioning in a Ukrainian corruption case came one day after The New York Times reported that longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone was ordered by the Senate Intelligence Committee not to destroy any documents which might be connected to an investigation of Russian Federation. After he resigned, Trump's son Eric called him "amazing", and Trump himself thanked Manafort for "his great work in helping us to get where we are today, and in particular his work guiding us through the delegate and convention process". Those leaks, the administration says, are the real problem.

"I think that when you read a lot of this activity about associates, there is a fine line between people who want to be part of something that they never had an official role and in people who actually played a role in the campaign or transition". Spicer pointed to media reports that revealed Michael Flynn, Trump's one-time national security adviser, talked with the Russian ambassador during the campaign. What were the motives behind that?

Trump frequently criticized former President Obama for making golf trips during his time in office. "Who was behind that kind of unmasking?"

Even some members of Trump's own party have encouraged the president to apologize to Obama.

"There's a point at which you continue to search for something that everybody who has been briefed hasn't seen or found".
