April the giraffe and her boy calf are doing well

Adventure Park in Binghamton N.Y. a giraffe named April stands with her new calf on Saturday

After being over two months late, internet star April the Giraffe finally gave birth in the month of her name.

Patch says April is "recovering perfectly" following the delivery.

Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch appeared on Good Morning America Monday, April 17, and said both April and her newborn are thriving.

The funds raised will go to giraffe conservation efforts, the park and other charities.

More than 1.2 million viewers watched the birth in real time thanks to Animal Adventure's livestream.

Those have included a parody of the live-stream by a pregnant woman, a day-by-day analysis of pregnancy signs, baby showers for April, and people anxiously awaiting the big event.

More news: It's very worrying, disappointing the way we lost, says stunned Wenger

If you have opinions about this giraffe's name and five dollars to burn, then have at it - the money goes to a great cause, and you'll be able to witness just one more bizarrely viral event in the tapestry of this little creature's life.

Mr Patch also described the birth of the calf as being "perfect" and that everything had gone as planned and April and her calf had started to bond immediately.

"It's too amusing that Baby G is camera shy (unlike #AprilTheGiraffe) and chooses the one corner we can't see - well played baby boy!" commented one Twitter user.

April is very protective of her handsome son, as many new mothers are wont to be. People around the world have been tuning in daily, with some growing impatient as the pregnancy seemed to drag on.

The calf weighs in at 129 pounds and stands 5 feet 9 inches tall.

While Oliver's baby mom raises their son, weaning him for six months or more, Oliver will be watching but not helping. Animal Adventure has not announced a height and weight for April's calf. It is now closed and will open to the public in mid-May. The zoo is in Harpursville, New York, about 130 miles (209 kilometers) northwest of New York City.
