Flash CPU sale: take $50 off AMD Ryzen 7 1700x and 1800X

What Do Analysts Think about AMD

In our review of the Broadwell-E-based Intel Core i7-6950X, we saw that the 10-core behemoth struggled to keep up with a Kaby Lake-based Core i7-6700K in some situations even though it cost several times as much.

After digging through eBay Deals new offer on a 20% off coupon through select sellers (sorry, it's not all eBay), it's clear to skip the base model 1700 Ryzen 7 for $329.99 in favor of the mid-tier Ryzen 7 1700X as it is now cheaper after the eBay coupon with a drop from $399.99 to $319.99. With the release of AMD Ryzen 7 last March 2 and Ryzen 5 series last week, and the impending release of the cheapest Ryzen 3 series by H2, Intel is cramming to get back into the market with its version of powerful processors. With 6 cores and the ability to handle 12 simultaneous threads, AMD's Ryzen 5 1600X ($249 MSRP) often trounces Intel's Kaby Lake-based Core i5-7600K (4 cores and threads, $242 to $243 recommended price) in productivity and content-creation benchmarks. According to DigiTimes, the launch of Intel's 14-nm Coffee Lake processors is being brought forward to August 2017 instead of January 2018. Intel famously retired its "tick tock" strategy of alternating biannual architecture and process changes with the Kaby Lake generation, adding a third "optimisation" step.

Kaby Lake-X: Kaby Lake-X's exact features and capabilities are somewhat unclear.

AMD Ryzen 5 uses the Zen architecture and the CPU comes in different variants.

The next range of Intel processors could hit the market much earlier than expected. The image below, originally by BenchLife, claims to show the standard platform - but the diagram makes the Kaby Lake-X look like a complete waste of a product, given that it's limited to two channels of DDR4 and just 16 lanes of PCIe 3.0. These will still be manufactured on the 14nm process, becoming the fourth 14nm generation. These dates are approximately three months earlier than Intel had previously signalled that the launch would go ahead.

What's really interesting to see with this latest batch of rumors is that there is more information on Coffee Lake and the Intel 300 series chipset, which will succeed the current 200 series.
