Fox sacks O'Reilly amid harassment storm

Fox sacks O'Reilly amid harassment storm

O'Reilly could be totally innocent but when advertisers abandon ship, it's over.

Representatives at Fox News and its parent, 21st Century Fox, were not immediately available for comment about how O'Reilly might be replaced. When Variety asked about the next one in development, "Killing Patton", the channel said "we're not making any decisions today". He says it is "tremendously sad" to part ways with the network over claims he calls "completely unfounded", though O'Reilly does not clarify why he and his legal team refused to challenge the "completely unfounded" claims in court.

In April, The New York Times reported that five women were paid a collective $13 million by O'Reilly and Fox News for agreeing to not file lawsuits or speak publicly about allegations that he harassed them. He thanked his viewers and noted the success Fox had achieved. Eric Bolling will host a new show that airs at 5 p.m. starting next month, the company said.

The "Factor" was the hub of O'Reilly's business, but he has many other spokes, including a line of best-selling books and stage shows at theaters.

After being fired from Fox News after a series of sexual harassment allegations were made public, the veteran TV host is lashing out at the "unfounded claims" against him. He was scheduled to return from a vacation Monday, but a permanent replacement is expected to be named for his time period before that time.

The departure from Fox News marks a stunning end to a near flawless marriage between a pugnacious personality and network.

It was a stunning fall from grace for one of the biggest U.S. media names, a veteran broadcaster at Fox News for two decades, who counted President Donald Trump among his personal supporters and whose ratings had soared regardless of alleged abusive behavior towards women dating back years.

Embattled Fox News host Bill O'Reilly had a brief handshake with Pope Francis on Wednesday as sexual harassment allegations dog him at home.

O'Reilly was a ratings magnet at Fox - but it's hard to know how much of his audience would follow him to another network.

You may have already heard, there are some major changes coming to the programming lineup here at Fox News channel. In addition, many brands pulled their ads from his show including BMW and Hyundai. Ailes has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Vatican spokesman Greg Burke confirmed O'Reilly was in the VIP section Wednesday.

"What Rush Limbaugh was to talk radio, Bill O'Reilly has been to conservative television", said Mark Feldstein, communication professor at the University of Maryland.

O'Reilly's exit, which was first reported by NY magazine, follows that of former Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes, who was forced to resign in July after being accused of sexual misconduct by a number of women, including former anchor Gretchen Carlson. On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal, a newspaper owned by the Murdochs, wrote that the company was preparing to cut ties with O'Reilly.
