France PM warns Le Pen against 'exploiting' Paris tragedy

"Le Pen's momentum is a slow-moving reaction against the men of Davos - as we have seen with Brexit and Trump - but markets don't want to believe it", Charles Gave told Bloomberg News.

Hamon is polling a distant fifth place ahead of Sunday's first-round election and has little chance of reaching the decisive May 7 runoff.

Since taking the helm in 2011, Le Pen has sought to rid the party of the anti-Semitic image it acquired under the almost 40-year leadership of her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen.

Addressing almost 5,000 flag-waving supporters in the southern city of Marseille, where two Frenchmen were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of planning an attack on the election, the National Front (FN) leader said: "I have been denouncing this bad poison of Islamic terrorism since I launched my campaign ... and none of my rivals are willing to debate the subject".

She said Wednesday that "I am a candidate in the election for the French republic" and that Europe is acting like France's "enemy".

Watch the segment above. Corporate bosses are also anxious that Melenchon's plans to raise the minimum wage, cut the working week and reduce the retirement age for French workers will push up costs, and act as a further drag on the country's productivity.

Voters will cast ballots in the first round on Sunday of what has turned into the most unpredictable French election in memory as the gap between four frontrunners narrows.

Le Pen - narrowly trailing frontrunner Emmanuel Macron in opinion polls - said she would take steps to beat "Islamist terrorism" if elected, including introducing tougher immigration and border controls.

"I've heard Madame Le Pen saying again recently that with her in charge, certain attacks would have been avoided", he said on RTL Radio.

The presidential hopeful also said that mosques must not be financed by public funds or foreign nationals. "It makes it more likely that Le Pen will qualify and means a slightly better chance that Fillon could qualify too", Webber said. The market consensus for the first-round of the election is that the Centrist Macron and the far-right wing Le Pen will both capture enough votes to proceed to the second round, but this is very much still a four-horse race.

The BVA poll showed abstentions at between 20 and 24%. And the prime minister comes from the party that holds the majority in parliament.

The other is that Le Pen will face either the traditional conservative François Fillon or the synthetic centrist Emmanuel Macron with the likelihood that the left will support Le Pen rather than-as in the past-obediently align itself with the center in order to defeat the National Front. He's now in touching distance of the French presidency.

It is not the first terror-related incident to mar the French election cycle, and prior attacks in the country - from the 2015 Paris attacks to last year's Bastille Day attack in Nice - are to the forefront of many voter's minds.

Left-leaning Le Monde newspaper has dismissed the claim as "absurd" given that most of the attackers were French, many without criminal records.
