Fresno Shooter Kills 3 In Suspected Hate Crime

Three killed in Fresno, California shooting spree

He rose to the rank of lieutenant within the Nation and attended the Million Man March in 1995, when he would have been 17.

"They're so devastated", Wagner said. Muhammad is a convicted felon on previous drug charges and will be charged with illegal possession of a firearm, as California law requires. Records show he was arrested at least twice as a teen for possessing a gun in school.

While working at a Motel 6, Williams and the suspect got into an argument, police said.

"If in fact he's lashing out at white people - white males in this case - that would constitute a hate crime", Dyer said.

She said there has been an outpouring of support for Catholic Charities and that there was a long line of clients awaiting services as normal early this morning outside the charity at 149 N Fulton St.

Greer says they would shop for groceries and cleaned the house together.

Greer said Jackson tripped over a curb in the parking lot, falling down when he was shot.

Greer says Jackson was a military veteran.

The suspect, an African-American named Kori Ali Muhammad (39), shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he was being taken into custody.

- 10:43 a.m. Shot Spotter registered first shots in the area of Van Ness where Muhammad approached a parked PG&E truck and noticed the passenger was a white male, open fired. He also shot Mark Gassett on a sidewalk, pumping two more rounds into him as the man lay on the ground.

During the rampage, Muhammad shot at a resident who he encountered in the neighborhood multiple times but missed, Dyer said Tuesday.

Authorities say 39-year-old Muhammad, who is black, was motivated by racial hatred, seeking to kill as many white people as he could.

Muhammad was arrested shortly after the deadly rampage. Dyer described Muhammad as a "racist" rather than a terrorist.

The next day, police said Muhammad took a city bus to Herndon & Milburn where he hid in a ravine until Tuesday.

Dyer said the man needs to call Fresno police immediately at 559-287-6579 and turn the gun in.

He claimed insanity after being charged with possessing cocaine with intent to distribute in 2005, and his attorney requested a psychiatric examination, saying Muhammad "appeared eccentric with some weird beliefs".

After Kori Ali Muhammad learned that he was wanted in the death of a security guard last week, he made a decision to take out as many other white men as possible before he was caught, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said. The fanatic black nationalist told investigators he wanted to slaughter as many whites as he could.

Muhammad told detectives that he is Muslim but hadn't been to mosque in 20 years and prays to numerous gods, Dyer said. He told investigators that he did not like white men and that "white people were responsible for keeping the black people down".

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer says suspect Kori Ali Muhammad spent hours talking with investigators after his arrest.

Sixteen rounds were fired in four locations, Dyer said.

The suspect then fled and hid on a gas station roof.

Dyer says it is extremely rare for a suspect to be so forthcoming about potential crimes.

"I did it. I shot them", Muhammad told officers as they arrested him, according to the chief. Police say Williams was unarmed.

The final two victims were 37-year old Mark Gasset who was standing in front of a home on Fulton Street. He told her loved her too.

During the shooting rampage, Muhammad fired several times at two Hispanic women in a auto, but he stopped shooting once he realized they were Hispanic and let them go, Dyer said.

A coroner has released the names of three men gunned down during a shooting rampage in Fresno.

When Muhammad later saw a police vehicle, he surrendered. - Muhammad then went to a Starbucks and accessed wi-fi where he learned he was a suspect in the murder of the security guard at Motel 6. Wright says he expects the arraignment will be scheduled for Friday. The driver of the truck, who is Latino, sped off to the police department for help, but the worker, a 34-year-old white man, died.

Randalls was in a training program for Pacific Gas & Electric and doing a ride-along Tuesday when he was gunned down. First victim, Zackary Randalls, is struck and later dies. "That makes it even sadder because Zack was truly a person who never saw color in anybody".

A Facebook profile page for a Kori Ali Muhammad from Fresno paid homage to black pride and black nationalism, with images of the red, green and black Pan-African flag and a raised fist.

"He wouldn't want people to be divided by this", Valencia told the Fresno Bee.
