Japan Hopes Russia, China to Help Settle North Korea Nuclear Issue

China may be getting fed up with continued nuclear bluster from long-time ally North Korea and tilting toward the United States.

The rhetoric between the United States and North Korea continues to intensify as Pyonyang issues a warning to America.

Those possibilities included defensive exercises or Chinese concerns over North Korea.

The rhetoric from both the USA and the North Korean side has been more belligerent of late. Front runner Moon Jae-in was criticized for leaving his options open before the May 9 election.

The U.S. will not relent until it achieves its objective of ensuring the Korean Peninsula is free of nuclear weapons, Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday while visiting Japan.

Apparently, the United States understands the probability of the nuclear attack.

An official Chinese newspaper said there was optimism about persuading the North to end its pursuit of a nuclear program without the use of force, "now that even the once tough-talking Donald Trump is onboard for a peaceful solution".

The proposed statement on April 19 would have demanded that North Korea "conduct no further nuclear tests" and halt missile launches after Pyongyang carried out a failed test over the weekend.

The release of a Security Council press statement requires the consent of all 15 member countries. It also stated that Pyongyang's ballistic missile launches are "illegal" and that the country has been developing nuclear weapons. The latest draft statement dropped "through dialogue" and Russian Federation requested it be included again. While the North did not conduct a nuclear test, the specter of a potential test and an escalated US response has trailed Pence as he undertakes his Asian tour.

U.S. defence secretary Jim Mattis warned that North Korea's latest failed missile launch was a reckless act of provocation and assured allies in Asia that America was ready to work to achieve a peaceful denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

The strike group was now heading to the Western Pacific "as a prudent measure" following a "curtailed" period of training with Australia, US Pacific Command spokesman Commander Dave Benham said on Wednesday.

The Ronald Reagan, whose home port is Yokosuka, Japan, is part of the Seventh Fleet and is regularly deployed around the western Pacific. But he told the sailors, "as all of you know, readiness is the key".

Without mincing words, the official newspaper of Pyongyang's ruling Workers' Party, the Rodong Sinmum warned that the USA and its regional allies like Japan and South Korea should not mess with Kim Jong-un's regime.

China is seriously concerned about nuclear threats after North Korea said they would test missiles regularly and warned of a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the United States in case they suspected an attack.
