McNuggets order led police to Facebook killer

PA State Police: Steve Stephens commits suicide following brief chase

"After a brief pursuit, Stephens shot and killed himself", the police had said on Twitter. Police said he died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on Tuesday afternoon after a brief pursuit by Pennsylvania state police.

The search for Stephens began Sunday after he recorded and shared on Facebook a video of himself shooting a stranger named Robert Godwin on a Cleveland street. Facebook has come under fire for leaving up the disturbing video for about two hours before it was taken down. He said he "just snapped".

"I don't want that man to die, I want him brought to justice", one of his sons, Robby Miller, said. "I'm not happy what you did, but I forgive you".

"She's the reason that this is about to happen to you", Stephens told the elderly father of nine in the video.

Police radio dispatches reveal how Pennsylvania State Police were following Steve Stephens' white Ford Fusion in Erie, Pa.

Henry Sayers, the Erie restaurant's manager, tells reporters that Steve Stephens pulled up to the drive-thru Tuesday morning and ordered a 20-piece Chicken McNuggets and french fries. He was picking up aluminum cans on the side of the road when Stephens allegedly drove up and shot him.

"From a law enforcement and apprehension perspective, having a person's face out there no longer makes them invisible", he says.

The police chief said it was not clear whether Stephens had any help while he was on the run or where he had been and that investigators will try to retrace his steps. The social media network later removed the video. He offered his condolences and reiterated the company's position that it will review its "reporting flows" so that users can flag video and other content that violates its policies. Godwin did not seem to recognize the name.

Cops had been on the hunt for Stephens ever since he shot Robert Godwin Sr., 74, on Facebook Live. They last spoke on Saturday evening, Lane said, when he told her he was moving out of state and had quit his job.

Stephens, 37, was named among the FBI's "most wanted" amid a $50,000 reward.
