White House bounces into spring with 139th annual Easter Egg Roll

The President appeared to forget White House protocol yesterday at the annual Easter egg roll, and it was down to Melania to remind him.

A little rain didn't stop the White House from hosting the biggest event of the year.

Military families, children from local schools and hospitals and the children of White House staff members were in attendance at the event.

The 11-year-old was taking time away from the crowds as he made a rare public appearance for the 139th Easter Egg Roll at the president's residence. Tons of adorable youngsters joined First Lady Melania Trump and her family in Washington D.C. for the annual, fun-filled event.

The new president, who took office January 20, thanked the first lady for her efforts in organizing the children's event.

But the event did go ahead, complete with golden Trump administration-stamped eggs.

The president offered some brief remarks as well.

The gaffe came shortly after the President gave a speech beside a person dressed as the Easter Bunny, telling a crowd of children that "we will be stronger and bigger as a nation than ever before".

"On behalf of the president and (our son) Barron, we wish you great fun and handsome days coming ahead of us", Xinhua news agency quoted the first lady as saying.

If media accounts are any indication, the 139th White House Easter Egg Roll seemed doomed from the start.

"She wanted to get back to the tradition, so we're bringing back some traditional elements, like military bands, and focusing on the family itself", Stephanie Grisham, Melania Trump's communications director, told CNN.
