Mike Pence issues North Korea warning as 1200 marines ready for war

North Korea propaganda video shows U.S. being destroyed

Lavrov's comments come after President Trump's authorization of a strike on a Syrian airbase two weeks ago caused a flurry of speculation that North Korea might also face military action in response to further provocations.

North Korea recently unveiled footage of a simulated nuclear strike on a USA city to celebrate a major national holiday.

Earlier this month, the US House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed bipartisan legislation calling for relisting North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.

George Washington University professor Henry Nau, who served on the National Security Council staff in the Reagan administration, said the tough talk was primarily aimed at getting the attention of rogue elements in various parts of the world that have acted with impunity in the past.

A senior North Korean official said Monday that the US has created "a risky situation in which a thermonuclear war may break out at any minute".

North Korea attempted but failed to launch a ballistic missile on its east coast last Sunday, the latest sign of rising tensions in Asia.

Pence's visit to Japan comes amid the aggravation of the situation on the Korean peninsula with the South Korea and United States military reporting April 16 that they had witnessed what they believe to be a failed missile test by Pyongyang which followed a number of missile launches and nuclear tests by Pyongyang considered to be in violation with the UN Security Council resolution. They're close to getting a missile to hit the homeland.

North Korea was put on the list for its 1987 midair bombing of a Korean Airlines flight that killed all 115 people aboard. Pence reiterated that "all options are on the table" to deal with threat and said that any use of nuclear weapons by Pyongyang would be met with "an overwhelming and effective response".

United States Vice President Mike Pence has arrived in Japan for the second leg of his four-nation Asia tour.

He added: "But at the same time dialogue for the sake of dialogue is valueless and it is necessary for us to exercise pressure North Korea so that it comes forward and engages in this serious dialogue".

Reuters cited a statement from a Japanese government spokesman who said that Pence and Abe agreed that they needed to persuade China to play a larger role in dealing with North Korea.

The United States, Pence said, would be unwavering in its alliances and unyielding in its resolve.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, "We know the situation is tense. The more tense things are, the more calm we need to be to find the opportunities and possibilities for dialogue".

"I can see that the USA is also emphasizing and reaffirming their willingness for a political and diplomatic solution". He added, "This is their first choice".

The next step would be to bring home the 54,000 US troops stationed in Japan and another 25,000 troops in South Korea. Pyongyang continues to threaten to destroy Japan, South Korea, and the United States with its missiles.
