National Basketball Association fines Grizzlies' Fizdale $30000 for officiating rant

Memphis Grizzlies head coach expressed his frustration with the officiating in the team's 96-82 Game 2 first-round playoff loss to the San Antonio Spurs. In back-to-back seasons, the Spurs have made light work of Memphis and going back to 2015, the Spurs have won 10 straight.

"Zach Randolph, the most rugged guy in the game, had zero free throws", Fizdale said as he stared down at the box score from Monday's game. Danny Green scored 12, LaMarcus Aldridge pumped in 11 points and Pau Gasol contributed 10 points off the bench.

But Memphis coach Fizdale was furious after seeing his side outgunned, complaining that the officiating crew had unfairly skewed the free throw count against his players. Second-seeded San Antonio revolves around Leonard, who has raised his exploits despite opponents routinely double-teaming him in hopes of slowing his down. The Grizzlies took 15 free throws as a team against San Antonio's 32 even though Memphis attempted 35 shots in the paint, 17 more than the Spurs. "We had two good wins and now we have to go to Memphis and play with the same intensity, the same energy because they're going to come out and be very physical".

San Antonio owned a 56-37 lead at the half with Leonard pacing all scorers with 18 points.

As opposed to reports swirling around our hockey club, Memphis Grizzlies players have pledged pay coach David Fizdale's punishment for - justifiably and with panache - ripping National Basketball Association referees new whistle holes. They corralled him just past half court near the sideline, nobody flashed middle for the Spurs and as Leonard tried to call a timeout, he was called out of bounds.

Celtics' Smart fined: Celtics guard Marcus Smart has been fined $25,000 by the National Basketball Association for making an obscene gesture during Boston's first-round Game 2 loss to Chicago.

"They shot 18 times and had 32 free-throws". And our promise to you is that we will always strive to provide indispensable journalism to our community.

[Mike] Conley, who made four of five foul shots, backed his coach's assertion but resisted saying anything that would warrant discipline from the league. Fizdale said at his postgame press conference. Our guys dug in that game and earned the right to be in that game. "They took advantage of it, and that's what San Antonio does, make something out of every little mistake". It will be an uphill battle for the Memphis Grizzlies starting Thursday at the Grindhouse.
