North Korea threatens to 'ravage' US if Trump orders airstrike

Soldiers hold their weapons as they ride on a truck with rocket launcher past a stand with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during the parade celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea in Pyongyang October 1

North Korea has already conducted five nuclear tests in defiance of UN and unilateral sanctions and experts and military officials believe it is working on developing nuclear warhead missiles that could reach the United States.

A huge truck carrying the missile-shaped object rolled through the main square of the capital in front of the Dear Leader and other top officials of the communist regime, TV footage showed. An official from South Korea's Defense Ministry couldn't immediately confirm whether the rocket was a new ICBM.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un presided over a military show of strength in Pyongyang on Saturday, as tensions with the United States reached boiling point.

Moreover, the North has taken the recent deployment of a US naval strike group to the region as grounds for its continued testing of nuclear and missile weapons technologies.

As RIA Novosti reports, this day is marked as the Day of Sun in North Korea.

But Choe Ryong Hae, reportedly the second-most powerful official in the country, said in a speech that Pyongyang is prepared for any threat posed by the United States.

Concern has grown since the U.S. Navy fired 59 Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian airfield last week in response to a deadly gas attack.

Trump posted a tweet Tuesday in which he said the North is "looking for trouble" and reiterated his call for more pressure from Beijing, North Korea's economic lifeline, to clamp down on trade and strengthen its enforcement of United Nations sanctions to persuade Pyongyang to denuclearize.

On its website, the group said: "Commercial satellite imagery of North Korea's Punggye-ri nuclear test site from 12 April shows continued activity around the site's command centre".

A submarine-launched ballistic missile was displayed at the parade for the first time.

"Our toughest counteraction against the USA and its vassal forces will be taken in such a merciless manner as not to allow the aggressors to survive", the official said, according to North Korea's state news agency.

Kim did not address the rally, which celebrates the 1912 birthday of his grandfather, Kim Il Sung - North Korea's founding ruler - and which is meant to send an unmistakable message to Washington about the isolated, nuclear-armed North's military might.

As Tokyo communicated its protest to Pyongyang through a diplomatic channel in Beijing, a Japanese government source said North Korea's "repeated provocative moves are unacceptable".

Joshua Pollack, editor of the Washington-based Nonproliferation Review, said displaying more than one of the missiles indicates North Korea is progressing with its plan to base a missile on a submarine.

The North conducted two such tests previous year alone.

North Korea unveiled what appears to be launch tubes for a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) during a military parade in the capital of Pyongyang to celebrate the 105th birthday of the country's late founder Kim Il Sung, South Korea's military said Saturday.

The Japanese government says it has protested to North Korea over its latest attempted missile launch, but that the failed firing had no security impact on Japan.
