Robert Kraft: Both New England Patriots, President Donald Trump overcame 'long odds'

Donald Trump might say this was the most highly attended championship team ceremony ever at the White House. but the pictures say otherwise.

According to the Sporting News, six Patriot players have announced they are not attending the traditional visit. In 2017, they were seated on the South Lawn.

With the Patriots lined up behind him, Trump said: 'No team has been this good for this long'.

Also missing was Tom Brady, the Patriots future Hall-of-Fame quarterback, who told the White House in advance he was dealing with a "personal family matter".

On his Instagram account, Brady posted his parents' wedding photo on their 48th anniversary.

Casting a pall over the ceremony was the news about Hernandez, who hanged himself in a prison cell hours before the White House visit, according to MA prison officials.

"Every time we've had the privilege of going to the White House, a dozen of our players don't go", Kraft told the "Today" show. In fact, a quick scan of photos through the years suggests that the high attendance at the Obama White House in 2015 was an anomaly-which nonetheless can't be welcome news for Trump.

During the ceremony, Trump further explained Bill Belichick writing him a letter in which he read to a New Hampshire crowd the night before the election.

Patriots' owner Robert Kraft compared his team's remarkable comeback, after being down 21 to 3 at halftime and overtime, to President Trump's unlikely campaign to win the White House.

Trump has repeatedly touted his ties to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, though the MVP of Super Bowl LI dodged questions about their relationship in the lead-up to the game.

"It's distinct honor for us to celebrate what was unequivocally our sweetest championship with a very good friend and someone's who's mental toughness and strength I greatly admire", Kraft said.

Trump went on to praise Patriots owner Robert Kraft for guiding the franchise to its fifth Super Bowl title since 2002.

While that is likely the main reason Brady did not make the trip to the White House, his wife presented another theory with a Wednesday tweet that she has since deleted.

Defensive back Devin McCourty said he wouldn't attend because he doesn't feel welcome at the White House.
