Trump to meet Italian premier ahead of G-7 meeting in Italy

Trump also voiced optimism that the USA had successfully enlisted China to try to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons program.

He says the United States "has, right now, enough roles, with a role everywhere".

Libya descended into chaos with a civil war in 2011 that ended with the killing of longtime leader Moammar Gadhafi (MOO'-ah-mar gah-DAH'-fee).

While he has yet to travel overseas as president, Mr. Trump in his first 100 days in office has met with multiple top foreign leaders, including British Prime Minister Theresa May, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Peña Nieto. The visit will come a month before Trump is scheduled to travel to Italy for the first Group of 7 summit of his presidency.

"I want to get both", Mr. Trump said at a White House press conference.

According to a statement, Donald Trump will welcome Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni at the White House Thursday, the U.S. president's first in-person meeting with the Italian leader.

The president insists he had only been negotiating for a short time and says the new plan "gets better and better".

And, with a funding deadline looming to keep the government running, Trump said it was possible Congress would manage to accomplish it all next week or "shortly thereafter".

"They are not living up to the spirit of the agreement, I can tell you that", Trump said of the Iranians, though he did not mention any specific violations.

Under the deal, brokered during the Obama administration, Iran agreed roll back key aspects of its nuclear program in exchange for relief from certain economic sanctions.
