Turkey's Erdogan says he's set to meet Trump in Washington

Days after Turkey's election authority rejected its request to annul the referendum on boosting the president's powers, the country's main opposition says it will apply to Turkey's highest administrative court.

"The Constitutional Court has no right and authority to review the referendum according to the Constitution and the conventions that Turkey is party to", Bozdag told A Haber, adding that the Turkish constitution "explicitly rules that the decisions of the Supreme Election Board (YSK) are final and no authority can be resorted to against these decisions".

Ties between the United States and Turkey have deteriorated since a failed military coup in July 2016 and disagreements over U.S. support for the YPG in Syria.

With Turkish police beginning to crack down on those who have called for demonstrations over the result, left-wing website sendika.org said its editor-in-chief Ali Ergin Demirhan was held in a pre-down raid on its offices.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, whose post will cease to exist once Erdogan's all-powerful presidency proposed under the referendum comes into effect, said everyone had a right to complain - but it would not change the outcome.

"We are filing an appeal to the council of state today demanding the cancellation of the YSK decision to accept unstamped ballots", CHP Deputy Chairman Bulent Tezcan said.

Following this decision, the CHP said it would not recognize the result of the plebiscite and would "explore every opportunity" to overrun it, mentioning in particular that it could file a complaint to the Turkish Constitutional Court and the ECHR.

The global monitors noted that the electoral board's move to validate ballots without the official stamps removed an important safeguard against fraud and was "contrary to the law".

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday he would meet his USA counterpart Donald Trump in Washington on May 16-17, in their first meeting since Trump took office in January.

All ballot papers should have been stamped by the electoral authority before voting started to show that they were valid.

Unofficial results show Erdogan's "yes" campaign garnered 51.4 percent of the vote. The eroding personality cult of Ataturk suffered its biggest blow yet when Turkey voted April 16 to expand the powers of the presidency, undercutting the parliamentary system that Ataturk imposed almost a century ago.
