United Airlines Won't Be Firing Anyone Over Dr. David Dao's Assault

When Dr David Dao refused to give up his seat on an overbooked United Airlines plane in the USA two Sundays ago, nobody could have foreseen the consequences.

In a recent interview with industry publication Corporate Counsel, Hawaiian Airlines chief legal officer Aaron Alter said that there are important lessons to be learned from the current crisis of reputation facing United.

Popular Video Smoking still kills a disturbing number of people every year.

Munoz says he takes full responsibility "for making this right" after the April 9 incident aboard a United Express plane in Chicago.

Last week shocking footage of passenger Dr David Dao being forcibly removed from a flight went viral.

Dao's lawyer said the senior citizen incurred a significant concussion, suffered a broken nose and lost two front teeth in the incident, and that he would likely sue the airline, which also drew scorn after banning two young women wearing yoga trousers from a flight.

Many lawmakers fly home almost every week while Congress is in session, so the United incident hit a raw nerve.

Munoz reportedly called the situation a "humbling learning experience", according to Fox Business. United President Scott Kirby said, "We feel like we've managed that pretty well and our corporate accounts are largely supportive".

In response to the public outcry over the incident, United has said that it will require its employees to book seats on hour in advance, to avoid similar incidents of passengers being forced to give up their seats after boarding.

CEO Oscar Munoz and other executives apologized again on Tuesday before discussing the airline's latest financial results with analysts and reporters.

The violent removal of a passenger on a United Airlines flight has prompted US Senator Richard Blumenthal to propose a new passengers Bill of Rights that would mandate compensation for travellers involuntarily "bumped" from their airline seats. "Our entire leadership team and our entire airline is focused on learning from this event", he said.
