83 gang members arrested in 5-state raid

83 Facing Charges in NC in Massive United Blood Nation Gang Roundup

In one 2016 example, UBN members smuggled cellphones, narcotics, marijuana and razor blades into the Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City, authorities say.

The indictment also details gang efforts to traffic heroin, cocaine, narcotics and firearms. Seven others remain at large.

It also cites a series of crimes committed in Florida, including Pensacola, Pace and Gulf Breeze.

They say most of the arrests were made in Charlotte.

Some of the defendants are connected to at least six homicides and five attempted homicides in North Carolina.

The indictment also alleges illegal activity as far away as the Florida panhandle and the NY prison system. Thirty were already in jail for other crimes.

US authorities arrested Thursday dozens of suspected members of a gang tied to multiple serious crimes and seized their weapons, drugs, credit card making machines and other items.

Thursday, the indictment stated that out of the 83 people charged, 10 were not in custody.

The gang, founded on Riker's Island in 1993, has a military-like set up based on 31 rules of conduct, with each member having a rank, and an authority centralized in NY and that state's prison system.

The Bloods also have a long-term and often lethal rivalry with another risky gang, the Crips.

A news release from the U.S. Department of Justice said more than 600 federal, state and local law enforcement officers carried out the arrest warrants in Charlotte and other locations across North Carolina.

There was a big gang round up Thursday morning in North Carolina and a handful of other east coast states.

According to sources, the arrests of dozens of Bloods gang members took place early Thursday morning with teams of agents and officers conducting the roundup.

Three more people were arrested in part of a gang take-down operation that spanned across the east coast.
