Approval of President Trump drops to lowest since inauguration: Reuters/Ipsos poll

Unnamed U.S. officials said the details Trump divulged could allow the Russians to identify and disrupt the source of the intelligence inside Syria, where Russia has been providing military support to President Bashar al-Assad.

President Trump's approval rating has sunk to 38 percent - its lowest level since Inauguration Day, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll out Friday.

More than half (53%) of USA voters said they disapprove of the job Trump is doing as President, while just 41% approve, the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll showed - the worst levels the survey has found during Trump's four-month-old presidency. An additional 6 percent had "mixed feelings" about Trump's performance in the poll published by Reuters. It appears that Americans are beginning to sour on Trump after a tumultuous week, following the firing of Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

The Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced May 17 that former FBI Director Robert Mueller will serve as special counsel tasked with overseeing an investigation into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

Forty-one percent of voters said they are "not confident at all" in Trump's ability to handle classified information, and another 14% said they are "not too confident". Gallup's daily tracking poll, for example, set Trump's record low at 35 percent on March 28.

While Trump remains popular with members of his own party, many rank-and-file Republicans appear to have backed off their support for the president during the past week.

The Morning Consult/Politico survey of 1,970 registered voters was conducted May 16th through 18th and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Trump's approval rating has taken another hit amid the recent scandals, with 53% of voters saying they disapprove of his job performance, up from 50% last week.
