Beal helps Wizards even series with Celtics

NBA Playoffs: Celtics vs. Wizards Game 3 LIVE SCORE UPDATES (5/4/17)

Washington has been a dominant team at home this season, but has been lackluster at best away from the Verizon Center.

After Boston scored the first five points of the second half to lead 53-48, the excitement began.

Bradley Beal scored 29 points, and the Wizards produced 26 unanswered points in the third quarter en route to a 121-102 win over the Boston Celtics on Sunday night in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series.

The Celtics have made a habit of lousy first quarters in the series, falling behind 16-0 in Game 1 and digging a 13-point hole early in Game 2.

Game 5 is Wednesday in Boston.

"I feel like we feel like we're in control (of the series)", Wizards point guard John Wall said after the win. Washington was able to get 34 points off turnovers, making 14/19 (73.7%) field goals that resulted from turnovers.

"If we had LeBron on our team, too, we would have won", said DeRozan, who averaged 20.8 points in the four-game sweep, almost seven points less than he averaged in the regular season.

Standing at under 6 feet tall, Isaiah Thomas finds it hard to navigate his way through the trees on his way to the basket.

Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps waves in the crowd during the second half in Game 3 of a second-round NBA playoff series basketball game, Thursday, May 4, 2017, in Washington. "We can't have that", said Wizards coach Scott Brooks.

"It was all our defense", Beal said of the decisive run. The Celtics didn't respond until 4:42 remained, when Al Horford scored to snap the run. "It's not like we can't go up there and play good basketball". Boston is the top seed, but they are going to lose this game on the road. "He's a small guy so at the end of the day if you've got three players around you, how can you make the pass?" How can you make a shot? "It's about playing for each other, and we've been doing that all year". He uses Gortat's large frame to bewilder Celtics center Kelly Olynyk in the paint. Porter had 18 points.

Channing Frye had 10 points, and Cleveland finished 16 for 41 from 3-point range. The Wiz also swished 24 of 27 free throws. They did hit 14 of 31 threes, but the Celtics were out-rebounded, 45-31. The game was already a blowout in the second when Washington's Kelly Oubre Jr. was ejected for charging and knocking over Kelly Olynyk after the Boston big man was called for an illegal screen. Oubre's ejection was deemed a flagrant two foul and the league reviews those, so he could be facing a possible suspension.

In their 593 playoff games all-time that preceded this series against the Wizards, the Celtics allowed 38 or more points in the first quarter 10 times, according to stats guru Dick Lipe.

"No matter what, I've gotta play the same way", Thomas said.

"The refs were allowing them to hold and grab and do all those things", the guard explained, per Golliver. "Especially in that third quarter, I may have hit the ground five or six times". (22) dives for a loose ball during the second half in Game 3 of a second-round NBA playoff series basketball game, Thursday, May 4, 2017, in Washington. As the No. 1 seed, the Celtics have home-court advantage so for the No. 4 seed Wizards to succeed they have to win there.

Boston flipped the script Sunday.

But when Thomas came into the game for his second stint at the end of the first quarter and into the second, Thomas was more aggressive with the ball in his bands, but the Wiz were waiting.
