Britain relieved no 'second spike' in cyber worm attacks

North Middlesex University Hospital took in extra patients following the cyber attack
largest ransomware attack observed in history

Some GP practices had to close from 12 May while staff at other NHS services also found themselves unable to work.

An NHS update for the North East and North Cumbria said after four days that GP practices across the region were "still asking patients to consider delaying contacting their practice unless they really need to for the next few days to allow time to clear backlogs caused by the cyber-attack".

But Mr Hutchins, who works for Los Angeles-based Kryptos Logic but is from Ilfracombe in north Devon, spent the weekend fighting against the virus that meant computer systems were able to return to relative normality.

While all GP practices will have access to their clinical systems, not all computers in each practice may yet be back in full operation, however it is anticipated they will by the end of Tuesday.

"The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has been engaging with Australian businesses and industry sectors over the weekend to ensure they are aware of the threat and have taken appropriate measures", the agency said in a statement.

"While there is still some disruption in a small number of areas, most patients are being treated as normal", she added.

The NHS has provided an update about planned treatment and outpatient appointments following the ransomware attack on its IT systems.

"The National Cyber Security Centre and the NCA are working with Europol and other worldwide partners to make sure that we all collect the right evidence, which we need to do, to make sure we have the right material to find out who has done this and go after them, which we will", she said.

A total of 39 NHS services across England and Scotland were affected by the incident.

SHANGHAI-"Hundreds of thousands" of Chinese computers at almost 30,000 institutions including government agencies have been hit by the global ransomware attack, a leading Chinese security-software provider has said, though the Asian impact has otherwise been relatively muted.

Scottish health secretary Shona Robison confirmed that there has been no evidence that patient data has been compromised and patient services, including emergency service, are continuing to operate across Scotland.
