Canelo Alvarez v Gennady Golovkin confirmed as Julio Chavez Jr beaten

Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Canelo cruises towards victory announces fight with Gennady Golovkin

Earlier today (Sat. May 6, 2017) Canelo Alvarez downed Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.in Las Vegas in what was dubbed as a Mexican Civil War inside the squared circle. But in the end, the pay-per-view was worth the price of admission if only because of what happened during the post-fight interview.

"That mega fight really hurt boxing, especially the big pay-per-view fights".

"I think Golovkin's been sliding", Atlas explained, as quoted on Bad Left Hook. They had the power to make this fight back then. He wanted to humiliate his opponent and accomplished that with a unanimous 120-108 decision on all three cards. It was later revealed that Pacquiao, who struggled to land punches, was fighting with an undisclosed shoulder injury.

News of this proposed fight comes one week after Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko carried out an 11 round thriller in Wembley Arena, to inject some life back into the boxing scene.

Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) earned a guaranteed $5 million purse, while Chavez (50-3-1, 32 KOs), 31, earned $3 million.

"Chavez has a lot of fights under his belt, but not as much experience in big fights as Canelo", Mayweather said.

Whether Chavez would meet the 164.5 catch-weight limit was among the most compelling aspects of the Cinco De Mayo weekend showdown of Mexican boxing superstars. Former middleweight world titleholder David Lemieux will take on Marcos Reyes in 163-pound catchweight co-feature and both men were on point.

"This chapter is over", Alvarez said. "Right now, we are living in a great moment for the sport". Alvarez announced that he would fight Gennady Golovkin on September 16 at the very same venue. GGG has never fought in Vegas, and in fact all but one of his US-based matchups have occurred in either California or NY.

There have been plenty of barbs traded since the fight was announced.

Alvarez goes into the fight looking to avenge his last crack at greatness when he fell to Floyd Mayweather in 2013. Chavez Jr. was the first of the two to step onto the scale and "JC Jr" nailed it. Relative to the Golovkin fight, it became apparent the fight has been finalized days before the Saturday night fight but the official announcement will have to be made only if Alvarez is victorious over Chavez.
