Cavaliers go one up

Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas prepares to shoot as Cleveland Cavaliers forward Le Bron James defends during the first quarter of Game 1 of the NBA basketball Eastern Conference finals Wednesday

Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens commented on the Cavaliers offensive start and said, "I felt like that zapped us on the other end a little bit".

"Just trying to make plays for myself, make plays for my teammates, keep the defense off balance throughout the course of a 48-minute game", James said. Boston was 12-of-38 for 31.6 pct.

James was not the only player to impress for Cleveland.

James went 7-of-7 from the paint in the first quarter alone, and the Celtics' dreams of catching the Cavs with rust were dashed when they went 0-of-8 on open 3-point shots in the first half. Boston rallied some and actually cut the deficit to 11 with the benches cleared in the final minutes.

He then went on to comment on LeBron James and said, "It's hard to believe but he's better, a lot better than from when I came into the league". Love made six of his nine three-point attempts in Game 1, and he's shooting 45.7 percent from behind the arc in the playoffs. "I think when you start looking at you have to be quick, you have to be versatile, the shooting helps, all that stuff, and he's obviously been a huge part of our team the last couple of years". The 32-year-old was the game's top-scorer hitting 38 points in a game Cleveland never trailed in. Kevin Love added a playoff career-high 32 points with 12 rebounds while Tristan Thompson chipped in with 20 points.

Lue, a former Celtics assistant, said of Thompson, "He's our energy, he's our motor".

Marcus Smart provided some resistance in the third quarter when faced with the task of boxing out Thompson, but that physical mentality is one that the rest of the Celtics' lineup needs to adopt against Thompson.

The Cavs know for what they're preparing.

The Boston Celtics aim to level the series against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 at the TD Garden on Friday. Love opened up the floor for James, burying outside jumpers and forcing Boston to leave defenders one-on-one with James.Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder led the Celtics with 21 points each. Boston was 2 for 16 and shot 35 percent overall in the first half.

"We can't panic. It's only one game", Thomas said after Boston's off-day workout Thursday. James scored 25 in a ideal first half, and the Celtics made just enough shots to force him to continue mauling them on both ends of the floor in the second. They outscored the Cavaliers in both the third and fourth quarters.

"It was definitely a feel out game. We just gotta protect [our] home court in Game 2 and get the win". The pair were whistled for double fouls on one occasion and came together on other occasions. Despite winning last season, Lue probably can't wait to figure out what to do with Love against this Golden State team.

The record National Basketball Association playoff start of 11-0 was accomplished twice by the Los Angeles Lakers, in 2001 when they dropped only one game on the way to the title and in 1989 when they reached the final only to be swept by Detroit.

These Celtics, however, passed the former Celtic's test with Monday night's 115-105 Game 7 win over Washington. "We have to be ready for it", James told reporters. "Well, back to the drawing board I guess".

He's averaging 34.7 points per game in the Playoffs. Boston C Al Horford on the Celtics getting the top pick in the lottery: "That's big for our franchise".
