China's Xi says willing to help end rift with South Korea

Hong said he handed Moon's letter to Trump and expressed thanks for supporting South Korea's security and inviting the South Korean leader to visit Washington next month.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made a congratulatory call to Moon last week and Moon pledged to send special envoys to China as soon as possible as part of efforts to mend ties that have deteriorated following Seoul's deployment of the USA antimissile system on the Korean soil.

Harris, head of the United States Pacific Command, based in Hawaii, said North Korea is "closer to being able to deliver a nuclear-equipped missile anywhere in the world" and called for further coordination between the U.S., Japan and South Korea to deal with the threat.

However, the election this month of Moon as president, replacing the ousted Park Geun-Hye, has cast doubt over the agreement, which both governments previously had said "resolved (the issue) finally and irreversibly".

"Though we're now at the stage of pressure and sanctions, he said he has a willingness to make peace through the so-called engagement if certain conditions are right".

In the video, the group also takes shots at what Wang referred to as "vulgar behavior" within China, such as vandalism against South Korean-made Hyundai vehicles. This will surely add more confidence among the government of South Korea and the United States.

The golf course, which the Lotte Group, the country's fifth-biggest conglomerate, had owned, was designated as a site for THAAD that Seoul and Washington agreed in July past year to deploy in South Korea. South Korean businesses have faced boycotts, especially the retail group Lotte which provided the land on which the missile shield is being constructed.

Such moves underscore a willingness on the part of China's Communist Party leaders to fan the flames of anti-South Korea sentiment, said Korea expert Sung-Yoon Lee of Tufts University in MA.

Mainstream historians say up to 200,000 women, mostly from Korea but also China and other parts of Asia, were forced to work in Japanese military brothels during World War II. "The Chinese public has no interest in the complexities of missile defense systems".

In this regard, the foreign minister of South Korea said a few important things on Thursday.

During a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping last week, South Korea's new president, Moon Jae-in, said he was aware of Chinese worries about THAAD and asked Xi to help resolve difficulties facing South Korean businesses operating in China.
