David Ayer In Talks To Direct Scarface Reboot

Scarface Remake Targets Suicide Squad Director David Ayer

This Scarface version will be a reboot to both the 1923 and 1983 movies with new elements thrown into the mix. Suddenly someone remembered David Ayer exists, probably hungry to show off his machismo insanity after years of dealing with DC cartoon characters and Orc Cops.

Originally, Antoine Fuqua was supposed to direct, but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. And he once notoriously pulled a gun on his assistant for breaking a vase in his personal office over in Silverlake back in the mid-2000s, after he gained some acclaimed for his Training Day screenplay. End of Watch was a superb film that captured the criminal life while Fury focused on one of Ayer's central motifs, men cracking up under pressure when they're in a situation that's over their head. This new version of the gangster thriller has shifted locations from Miami to Los Angeles, and Ayer knows the dirty, gritty streets of modern day L.A.as well as any other current filmmaker. It will star Diego Luna, who played Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as the bad immigrant made worse. The new film will have a Los Angeles setting, with the script's most recent draft coming from the Coen brothers. So you can expect some oddball humor to seep in.

Dylan Clark is producing via his Dylan Clark Productions along with now-Netflix film boss Scott Stuber and original 1983 producer Martin Bregman.

Ayer is now putting the finishing touches on his Netflix film Bright, which stars Will Smith. Plus, it presumably keeps him away from Gotham City Sirens, a film I'd much rather see someone else - anyone else - step in to direct.
