Everything We Know About Young Sheldon So Far

CBS plans big Thursday night with

After nearly a decade of loving the idiosyncrasies of Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, we now have a chance to look at his origin story.

Iain Armitage plays the character, who in the mothership series is portrayed by Jim Parsons. The series starts in 1989 and follows him as a begins high school at age 9.

"It's about Sheldon Cooper when he is nine years old", he told Inside Edition on the red carpet.

The trailer sees Sheldon enter into the ninth grade, alienating both his classmates and teachers with his impressive intellect and trouble with social skills, pointing out dress code violations and calling into question their teaching credentials. Set in the late '80s, Sheldon's twin sister (Raegan Revord), older brother (Montana Jordan), father (Lance Barber) and mother (Zoe Perry), all struggle to understand the child prodigy.

While I'm not fan of the parent show and have no interest in watching Young Sheldon, yelling and complaining about this series isn't going to do anyone any good. Probably not. Then again, CBS doesn't need people who don't like The Big Bang Theory to watch this one. The result is a show that looks more cinematic than The Big Bang Theory, something akin to The Wonder Years (or Freaks and Geeks, if you want to be really generous) in look and tone. They brought in a ringer to direct the pilot - Iron Man's Jon Favreau, who also gets an executive producer credit. The series was created by TBBT's Chuck Lorre and the show's current showrunner Steven Molaro. Sheldon stopped saying this catchphrase on The Big Bang Theory years ago, but maybe it'll come back for a full circle moment.
