Amtrak Train Halted Near Chicago For Few Hours Because Shooting Incident Occurs

Klein, A retired federal law enforcement officer was charged in the May 16, 2017 shooting of an Amtrak train conductor in Naperville, Ill. A DuPage County judge set Klein's bail at $1.5 million on Friday.

Klein is charged with one count of Attempted Murder and one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.

He was aboard an Amtrak train that left Kansas City for Chicago about 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to prosecutors.

But when conductors said he couldn't disembark in Naperville and had a stop to go before reaching the destination on his ticket, Chicago, he pulled out a revolver, leaned from a train window and fired once; he hit the conductor standing outside in the abdomen, prosecutors said.

The man was in his 70s, who got shot, but it is unknown about the identity of the person who shot the old train conductor, in fact, both of the person's actual identity is upheld by the police authorities.

Although he had a clean record, prosecutors said newspaper clippings in his apartment indicated he has a fascination with police-involved shootings.

Klein tried to escape through the train window after shooting Case, but other passengers held him down until police arrived, according to prosecutors.

Conductor Case underwent surgery for his injuries.

Klein worked for the Federal Protective Services, a branch of Homeland Security responsible for protecting federal buildings.

Guns are only allowed on trains if they are "unloaded and in a secure container as checked baggage between stations that accept checked baggage", a spokesman said. Passengers failing to meet those requirements will be denied transportation, it reads.
