Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Update 1.1 removes "up yours" gesture and more

According to Mashable, Nintendo have had to release an update for the latest incarnation of one of their most popular games after gamers picked up on a gesture made by one of the game's characters that could be deemed as offensive.

Add to this the fact that up to two players are now able to spectate a certain group while waiting to join a match.

Inkling Girl was able to pull off a gesture when Mario Kart 8 Deluxe originally launched that could be perceived as pretty insulting in places like Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Starting positions in online races now properly reflect the order in which players join. The new gesture just simply shows Inkling Girl excited.

Nintendo's patch notes (available in full below) for Version 1.1 only says her animation has been adjusted, and not why, but a NeoGAF user quickly noticed, sharing before and after screenshots (also below).

In terms of aesthetics, Nintendo also fixed an issue with Driver Miis' facial expressions - they can now properly emote during races.

Nintendo has a lot to shout about in the latest USA charts, as the Switch becomes the best-selling console for the second month running.

Tournament clock now properly reflects real-world time.

Software sales grew 6% from previous year to $304 million in the month thanks to the all-time best-selling racing franchise in the U.S., Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, along with Persona 5, and a strong second month for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
