Palestinian killed by W Bank Jewish settlers

Several dozen hunger-striking Palestinians have been transferred from their cells to special wings in Israeli prisons for additional medical supervision, a spokesman for the Israel Prison Service said Wednesday.

Despite the Israeli authorities refusing to release information on the condition of the hunger-strikers, according to Israeli and Palestinian media reports a number of the hunger-strikers have been refusing water, while the rest are subsisting on salt water alone.

"The next 48 hours are critical".

Twenty-three-year-old Palestinian Moutaz Hussein Hilal Bani Shamsa was shot dead by an Israeli settler earlier today near the Huwwara village in the occupied West Bank district of Nablus.

Clashes developed all along the Gaza border, where hundreds of Palestinians torched tires and threw stones at Israeli forces, which responded with tear gas and stun grenades. The Israeli settler who shot and wounded a Palestinian man who threw rocks at his auto was detained, but was released after proving it was in self-defense.

"If the peaceful protests were not active to oblige the occupation to meet the demands and needs of the prisoners, then we will get to the language of force and we are ready to deal with the enemy (Israel) using the language it understands", the statement said.

A video of another settler handing out chocolates to "celebrate" the death of a young Palestinian man only served to exacerbate anger.

A similar incident occurred the day before near the Palestinian village of Silwad in the West Bank.

In December, the Israeli government lashed out over a UN Security Council resolution that condemned Israeli settlement building in the Palestinian Territories and called on Israel to stop immediately.

Furthermore, leaders of the various political factions in Gaza united in the West Bank by holding a press conference and warning of a military confrontation with Israel if any of the hunger-strikers died.
