Disturbance on LA-to-Hawaii flight brings FBI, fighter jets

Donna Basden said the man "clearly looked out of place", but he didn't say anything. Man subdued after incident on American Airlines flight to HonoluluFighter jets had to escort the flight, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation held a briefing Friday night. That's when Uskanil, now apparently wearing a towel or blanket over his head and with his laptop in his hand, was trying to get into the first-class cabin. A flight attendant had blocked the doorway with her serving cart.

A source at the TSA says a passenger with a laptop was waiting for the bathroom near the cockpit when a flight attendant told him to sit down.

Police say a man who caused a disturbance on a flight between Los Angeles and Honolulu had been arrested hours before his flight for opening a door that led onto an airfield ramp. Airport Police investigated and determined Uskanil had been drinking but did not meet the criteria for drunk in public. He was arrested for allegedly trespassing, given a court date and released from custody.

In this photo taken from video provided by Hawaii News Now, a man who was detained on an American Airlines flight is driven away from the plane after landing in Honolulu, Friday, May 19, 2017. "She said she was pretty scared that she was on the plane with someone who was a possible threat, but she's just glad they were able to get him off quick". "He was pushing against the cart and a bunch of guys grabbed him". They found some duct tape.

"He didn't really fight or anything", said Arakelian, a student at the University of Southern California.

Special Agents of the FBI Honolulu Field Office and local police responded ahead of the flight's arrival and took a passenger into custody. Laptops have been banned on a handful of worldwide flights, and could soon be outlawed on far more.
