PM to leave for Saudi Arabia tomorrow, could meet President Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump stops to give a thumbs up as he departs the White House to embark on a trip to the Middle East and Europe in Washington U.S

Stepping off Air Force One in sweltering heat with his wife, Melania, Trump and his entourage received a red-carpet welcome from Saudi King Salman.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend the first ever Arab-Islamic-American Summit being held in Riyadh on Sunday, a media report said on Saturday.

Trump is also scheduled to meet with leaders of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council and have lunch with leaders of more than 50 Muslim countries.

Trump and the king met briefly in the airport terminal for coffee before the president headed to his hotel ahead of the day's other meetings.

The president also plans to travel to Israel, the Vatican, Brussels and Sicily.

President Donald Trump has departed for his maiden overseas trip as president amid the controversy surrounding investigations into whether his campaign associates collaborated with Russian Federation to sway the election. The two leaders shared a long drive from the airport to central Riyadh, where the President is staying, and Trump was due to spent much of Saturday in meetings with Salman and his government, including the powerful deputy crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The leaders of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are also expected to discuss several economic and security agreements.

"I think the importance of this trip and President Trump's leadership around bringing people the world over to understand we are in this together", he said.

Melania Trump wore a black pantsuit with a golden belt and did not cover her head, consistent with custom for foreign dignitaries visiting Saudi Arabia.

JEDDAH: Salman Al-Ansari, president of the Saudi American Public Relation Affairs Committee (SAPRAC), said US President Donald Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia holds unprecedented strategic significance in strengthening bilateral ties, especially given that for the first time in history the Kingdom will be the first country visited by a sitting US president while on their duties overseas.

Trump dodged one potential land mine when Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who has been indicted on war crime and genocide charges, announced that he would not attend the summit for personal reasons.

The speech envisions new partnerships with America's traditional allies in the Middle East.

White House aides view the address as a counter to Obama's 2009 speech to the Muslim world, which Trump advisers view as too apologetic for US actions in the region.
