Sean Spicer no longer expected to give daily briefings

"I'm a patriot, and it would be an honor to serve the country", Guilfoyle said.

Politico reported that President Donald Trump is thinking about "scaling back" Spicer's "public role", and the Times reported that deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who has filled in for Spicer at briefings when he has been out on Navy Reserve duty, might take over for Spicer at the podium.

Playing coy about the current press secretary's position, Guilfoyle, the former wife of Democratic California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, simply described him as a "very nice man and patriot" and acceded that he was in a "tough position".

As with any plan that the White House has not yet executed, and with a high stakes foreign trip still to come, the sources cautioned that the plans are not finalized, but a demotion of the controversial press secretary would only further fan reports of discord within the administration. 'I think it'd be a fascinating job, it's a challenging job, and you need someone really determined and focused, a great communicator in there with deep knowledge to be able to handle that position'.

White House officials told The Washington Post that Trump was furious when he returned to his private residence that evening and saw that virtually none of his allies were defending him and his top spokesman had "hid in the bushes" to avoid reporters, as several outlets later described it.

"If you want to be successful and do communications with President Trump. And they'll be in the room, and you have to see, the way they ask questions, I want, I want, screaming and there's never been anything like this".

"As I stated in the interview, I really love what I do and my job co-hosting The Five is tough to beat."

He adds, "Kimberly is a valued member of the FOX News primetime lineup, and is under a long-term contract with the network".

"Well, he's been there from the beginning", Trump said without answering the question.

The news comes a week after Trump tweeted about possibly canceling press briefings altogether.

The president has reportedly groused in recent weeks about a lackluster press and communications team, especially in the wake of his firing FBI Director James Comey. "He's dedicated himself to this public service", she told the San Jose Mercury News. "I wish him the best, and I know he puts a lot of effort into it".
