Seeded Celtics provide final East challenge for LeBron James' Cavs

Marcus Smart Had a Violent Collision with Fan Sitting Courtside

Kelly Olynyk put up a playoff career high of 26 points off the bench - including 14 in an fantastic fourth-quarter display - while Isaiah Thomas was his usual electric self with 29 points as the Celtics can now get ready for Game 1 of the Eastern finals against the defending champion Cavaliers Wednesday night in Boston.

It was a total team effort sparked by a spirited performance from Boston's Big Bench Three of Kelly Olynyk (26 points, five rebounds), Marcus Smart (13 points, six rebounds, four assists) and Jaylen Brown (nine points).

Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas is introduced before Game 7 of a second-round NBA basketball playoff series against the Washington Wizards, Monday, May 15, 2017, in Boston.

Bradley Beal led the Wizards, who were playing their first game seven since 1979, with 38 points, including 24 in the second half.

Celtics advances to the Eastern Conference finals, where it will host the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 on Wednesday. In Game 4 of that series, Boston's Kelly Olynyk yanked Kevin Love's shoulder out of place fighting for a rebound, which forced Love into season-ending surgery. And you want to know how we feel?

It's do-or-die when the Washington Wizards take on the Boston Celtics in a Game 7 decider for the ages in Boston. Down just six points, head coach Scott Brooks must have known it was danger time anyway.

The two teams had won three games apiece coming into the clinching 7th game, and Washington took a 55-53 lead at the half. The big man shot 10-for-14 from the field overall and 5 of 6 in the final frame. We just lost our composure, and they picked us apart. He scored 11 of 13 points for Boston as the Celtics pushed their lead to 110-100. "He's been putting us in really good positions, and the type of attention that they were drawing to him, he was getting rid of it (and) putting us in great positions and we had to make plays, and that's what we tried to do". I watched Paul Pierce vs. LeBron James and how special that was, two superstars going at it, guarding each other and it was a historic game. They won all four games at home in the series against Washington.

Just a few minutes later, Smart took the same walk and smiled at Olynyk - already sitting in his auto and waiting to go home. The Celtics sent out Kelly Olynyk and Al Horford, who played around with pick and roll actions high above the key to open up the floor.

Isaiah Thomas previously claimed that "legends are made in Game 7". Thomas has been instrumental for his team in the fourth quarter, leaving no doubt why the final period is referred to as "IT Time".

James has gotten strong support from point guard Kyrie Irving (23.8 points per game despite struggling with his shooting), and role players Tristan Thompson (10.8 rebounds) and Kyle Korver (48.5 percent on 3-pointers) have done what's required.

The most he ever scored was 12 points in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2015.
