The Warriors destroy the Spurs, 136-100

Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry signals after scoring against the San Antonio Spurs during the first half of Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals Tuesday

For two- and- a- half quarters of their game one Western Conference Finals matchup in Golden State, the San Antonio Spurs dominated the Warriors.

Leading the series 2-0, the Warriors head to San Antonio for Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals on Saturday night.

Being the Golden State Warriors interim coach doesn't get you any preferential treatment in the Bay Area as Mike Brown found out just before the start of Game 2 on Tuesday.

"It's amusing you mention that", said Stephen Curry (29/7/7 in 30 minutes), whose pull-up three seven minutes into the game gave the Warriors a double-digit lead that only bloated as time went on.

The Spurs, who were without injured star Kawhi Leonard, were led by Jonathon Simmons, who finished with 28 points. McCaw, who had played fewer than 10 combined minutes since the end of the first round, became the first Warriors rookie with at least 18 points off the bench in a playoff game since Robert Parish in 1977, and the first rookie in the National Basketball Association with 18-or-more points off the bench in a playoff game since James Harden in 2010.

The Warriors began 10 for 16 as Curry hit three quick 3s and Green added two more for a 25-12 lead late in the first and 33-16 advantage after one quarter.

But even if Leonard played, San Antonio would have had their hands full containing the Warriors, who were red-hot from downtown and stifling on defense.

While it would be tempting to label this as a karma strike, any Pachulia injury won't be affecting the Warriors in remotely the same way Kawhi Leonard's is altering the Spurs' effort. The Warrior bench continued to pour it on, and the game ended with the Warriors just barely pulling out a narrow win: 136-100. I don't think as a group they really did, which means probably a little bit feeling sorry for themselves psychologically.

"It showed in the lack of edge, intensity ..." During one stretch, San Antonio made only 2 of 17 field goals, while Golden State was shooting 67 percent from the field. "Just depends on how the ankle heals", Popovich said. On Tuesday in Game 2, it was Golden State's turn to race out to a big cushion, but this time, the team in front would remain there for the duration of the contest.

The second quarter was nearly a repeat of the first.

"Somebody's got to teach him if the California Highway Patrol tells you to move, you move over", Popovich cracked.

"Yeah, I took the wrong approach", said Aldridge, who is now averaging 23.3 points (50.8% shooting overall), and 7.7 rebounds per game in this series.

San Antonio isn't ready to let this best-of-seven series get away as it shifts home.

"And that was the message to the team afterward, too, going into Game 3". So I just stopped.

You still go to jail, I think, when you're texting and you end up killing somebody. We know they're a little undermanned but they still play extremely hard, so we knew we couldn't come out here and relax and think they were just going to give us the game. "LaMarcus has to score for us".

Popovich suggested that his team had been unable to mentally cope with the loss of Leonard for Game 2. Klay Thompson still didn't have a breakout game - scoring only 11 after mustering only six points in Game 1 - but he did plant a pair of 3s. "I see the vehicle trying to inch forward, I'm like, 'He's about to get arrested.' I said, 'Pop, this is my own building.' He goes, 'I know, when I saw it was you, I died laughing'". "But I took myself out if it but it won't happen again".
