Trump predicts quick nomination to replace Comey at Federal Bureau of Investigation

On Wednesday, Trump said Comey was let go because he "wasn't doing a good job".

The White House disputed the media reports on Friday stating, the president had not asked former Federal Bureau of Investigation director to pledge loyalty to him during the dinner.

One source close to Trump said that while they didn't know whether Trump was recording White House conversations, they also wouldn't be surprised if he was.

But Comey's firing came days after he reportedly asked for more resources to advance the FBI's investigation into Russia's interference in the USA presidential election. Reuters reporter Jeff Mason asked. "And we think that we've actually, by removing Director Comey, taken steps to make that happen".

Trump told Fox News he did not ask Comey to pledge loyalty and only wants him to be honest.

In a series of tweets early Friday morning, President Donald Trump suggested he may have proof of what was said in his previous conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey.

The dinner came in the early days of Trump's administration, as the FBI was investigating Russian meddling in the election and possible ties to Trump's campaign.

Still, Trump's comments about "tapes" - which echoed the secret Watergate recordings made by ousted former President Richard Nixon - immediately drew sharp rebukes from Capitol Hill.

Along with finding Comey's dismissal inappropriate, 55% of poll respondents indicated that Trump's actions made them less confident that there will be a fair Russian Federation investigation.

"That would be flawless", the source close to Comey told the network.

When asked whether he could announce a nominee by Friday, when he is scheduled to leave for the Middle East and Europe on his first trip overseas as president, Trump responded, "Even that is possible".

When he came out with that scathing set of circumstances, the server... the emails, 33,000 emails...

Senior Democrats on the House judiciary and oversight committees wrote to the White House on Friday demanding copies of any recordings.

"I think we ought to get to the bottom line here: President Trump is unsafe".

U.S. President Donald Trump said he could announce a replacement for FBI Director James Comey by May 19, when he is due to begin his first overseas trip as president. But critics will question whether Trump is perhaps implying that he recorded his conversations with Comey.
