Union boss Len McCluskey: Labour can't win the election

Support The renewal of the Trident nuclear missile system has been included in the Labour Party manifesto

The current 40 percent tax rate applies to people earning between £31,500 and £150,000.

It insists they are fully costed and will be fully covered by tax rises, including increasing corporation tax from 19% to 26% and raising the top rate of tax for earnings above £80,000 to 45p and to 50p for income over £123,000. Companies would pay a 2.5 percent tax on salaries paid above £330,000 and 5 percent on those above £500,000, about $645,000. It appears that the party has paid no heed to the fact that corporation tax receipts actually increased after the Tories made a decision to slash the rate.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond said the financial "black hole" in Labour's manifesto would hurt "every single family" and showed Corbyn "can't be trusted to run the economy or negotiate the right deal for Britain".

The Tory dossier puts the cost of Labour's plans for a publicly-owned energy sector at £7.8 billion, water at £6.4 billion, the railways at £1.7 billion and the Royal Mail at £860 million, while it says establishing a national investment bank would add a further £10 billion.

"This is a program of hope. The Tory campaign, by contrast, is built on one word: fear".

Labour would lose 45 seats but win former Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg's Sheffield seat as minor compensation putting them on a post war low of 188.

More news: James Comey to testify in public session

"The reality, of course, is that Labour has launched their manifesto, a fantastic manifesto, a manifesto for workers, for ordinary working people and a manifesto which will change Britain for the better".

Prime Minister Theresa May called a snap election to try to boost her parliamentary majority ahead of divorce negotiations with the European Union.

"It's clear that proposal after proposal in this manifesto will mean more borrowing and debt: from promises on benefits, to promises on prison guards, to promises on nationalizing the water network", chief secretary to the finance ministry, David Gauke, said in a statement.

Opinion polls consistently give the Conservatives a big lead over Labour.

The manifesto included promises on public spending, taxing the well off, introducing four new bank holidays and renationalisation of public services.

Many in the Labour Party will also view Mr MCluskey's gloomy forecast as a lowering of expectations so the Labour leader can cling to power after 8 June until a younger left-wing successor can be found.
