Champions Trophy 2017: Pakistan stun England to reach final

Pakistan's Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez celebrate victory over England in the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final

Former Pakistan coach Waqar Younis lashed out at England captain Eoin Morgan for blaming the pitch after his team defeated the hosts in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy cricket tournament in Cardiff.

"We looked at the game they played previously, 250, 270 would have been a good score". "I think we play very good, that is why we won today".

"We knew we were going to play on a used wicket at some stage in this tournament". That is out of England's hands, but you have to adapt, it's as simple as that.

As the world's eighth-ranked team reaches the final of the ICC Champions Trophy, hopes to continue to rise that Pakistan can pull off the most dramatic of wins at the Oval on Sunday. "It's a big challenge jumping from venue to venue but we're going to have to do that with the World Cup so it's important for us to go through games like today for our experience".

Root was England's highest scorer in the match with 46 runs and the 26-year-old lamented his side's batting collapse, where they went from 128/2 being bowled out for 211.

Morgan is the only survivor in England's now much-admired white-ball team from the one Collingwood led to this country's only global trophy to date - at the ICC World Twenty20 in 2010.

"Of course, when you're playing at home, you'd like to think conditions are going to be slightly favourable to you".

"I don't think we did play anything rash today". Set just 212 for victory, Pakistan finished on 215 for two, with Azhar Ali (76) and Fakhar Zaman (57) sharing an opening partnership of 118.

"But Morgan chose the wrong moment to attack Hasan Ali, who in the absence of Mohammad Aamer was Pakistan's biggest threat, especially when he was finding reverse swing from round the wicket against the left-handers".

"Sarfaraz needs to be told that he hasn't done anything special at all as Pakistan was forced to win the games by someone", he added. "The wicket was obviously slow and low and hard to get away to start with", he added. "Pakistan have played the ideal game, they're peaking at the flawless time". It's not really my game, I take time at the start but on these wickets, they are very true and I had to adjust.

Before the final group match against Sri Lanka, Mickey Arthur had called Hasan one of the "beacons" of this Pakistan side and they were sentiments echoed by Sarfraz who praised the youngsters that have come good. "It is a cause of great pride and happiness for myself and for the entire Pakistan nation", said Ahmed after the semi-final triumph.
