Champions Trophy: Sarfraz Ahmed wants cricket to return to Pakistan

India, who launched their title-defence with a 124-run thrashing of Pakistan, were unchanged from the side that hammered Bangladesh by nine wickets in Thursday's semi-final at Birmingham's Edgbaston.

London [U.K], June 18: India won the toss and opted to bowl against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the high-octane final of the Champions Trophy at the Kennington Oval here on Sunday.

Hasan Ali, un-Pakistani-esque in his line-and-length bowling style but someone who ran in with characteristic aggression, took three to make sure India could not rebuild.

India was never in the hunt with the bat, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both back in the sheds within 16 balls to leave the innings in tatters at 2-6.

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman (114) hit his maiden ODI hundred after being caught off a no-ball in the innings' fourth over, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah.

Pakistan's opening partnership of 128 between Azhar Ali and Zaman was instrumental as they put up a big score.

Result: Pakistan beat India by 180 runs.

Hardik Pandya hit a go-for-broke 76 off 43 balls, including six sixes, but his career-best slog was stopped when he was run out by teammate Ravindra Jadeja.

Following a tournament beset by rain, one-sided matches and the anticlimactic exit of the host nation, the eighth Champions Trophy needed a finale to justify its existence within the chaotic global cricket calendar.

Head coach Mickey Arthur was asked if Pakistan's victory represented his greatest achievement.

That was until Azhar was run out after a terrible mix up but Fakhar put that behind him kicking on to score his maiden ODI hundred.

The left-arm paceman dismissed Rohit Sharma, skipper Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.

It is only the second century stand for Pakistan against India in any ICC ODI tournament.

Kohli, the world's top-ranked one-day batsman, had been dropped off the previous delivery in the slips and the India fans looked shell-shocked as he trudged off.

Leg-spinner Shadab took a wicket with his sixth ball when Yuvraj Singh (22) was lbw, although it needed a Pakistan review of an original not out decision.

Fakhar responded with two overs of circumspection and then two more which brought him three fours and two sixes as he suddenly put his foot down against India's two specialist spinners on his way to a century, which arrived when he swept Ravi Ashwin ferociously to the fence again.

With this win, Pakistan completed quite the turnaround having lost to India by a huge margin in their first match of the tournament. Playing in only his 3rd ODI, 27 year old Fakhar Zaman was the pick of the Pakistani batsmen, knocking his way to 114 off 106.

He was eventually out when he sliced medium-pacer Pandya to Jadeja, running back from point.
