Connecticut NBC Affiliate Will Not Air Megyn Kelly's Alex Jones Interview

Alex Jones is interviewed

In the preview clips of the segment that have been released, Kelly asks Jones about the Sandy Hook conspiracy theory.

"On the phone, Kelly seems to be engaging in some serious apple-polishing in trying to get Alex Jones to agree to the sit-down at his base in Austin, Texas, claiming that she finds him "fascinating", and promising that she would never do a "gotcha interview" or a" hit piece".

News said it has vowed to go ahead with Megyn Kelly's report on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on Sunday despite his "efforts to distract and ultimately prevent" its airing.

The public has lashed out at Kelly for providing Jones with a wide-reaching platform.

Jones, who claims 9/11 was "an inside job" and the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School included parents of 20 slain children who were "actors", said in a video posted Thursday to that he secretly recorded the interview because the edited version of it will be "a fraud" and "a lie".

At one point in the conversation, Kelly oddly referred to herself as a combination of Mike Wallace, Oprah Winfrey, and Larry the Cable Guy.

Kelly has called Jones' claims "revolting" but says there's value in exposing what he says to the American people.

We will continue our local coverage, including a special report on our Sunday 11pm newscast, which includes Sandy Hook parents, Governor Malloy and others who work to affect change around violence and mental illness. Several Sandy Hooks families have apparently turned down the offer to appear with Megyn Kelly, however.

The station's general manager and president, in a memo seen by Reuters, told employees the wounds of the shooting are "understandably still so raw" and the station has "decided not to air this week's episode of Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly". The memo says the executives "considered the deep emotions from the wounds of that day that have yet to heal". Demands from supporters like you convinced them to do the right thing - but we have to keep the pressure up to stop this unsafe interview completely before it airs tomorrow nation-wide. Obviously the footage will show up on YouTube.

Kelly said in a statement earlier this week she understood and respected the concerns about the interview.
