Firefighters Battle 'Lake Fire' Blaze in Castaic

Firefighters battle a brush fire in a remote area near Castaic on Saturday

Various firefighting forces are engaging a growing brush fire north of Castaic Lake near Santa Clarita that grew from five acres at around 2 about 500 acres shortly after 4 p.m., according to fire officials.

Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Ron Singleton says the fire at Castaic Lake grew "really fast" on Saturday but was in a remote area. Three water-dropping helicopters are assisting county and Angeles National Forest firefighters.

CASTAIC A wind-blown fire in dry, hard terrain near Castaic Lake had rapidly grown to 1,000 acres and burned two outbuildings Saturday night.

"As of last night... it was burning in the area it had held at", Licon said. Two outbuildings where destroyed by fire.

No injuries relating to the blaze have been reported.

"Because it's moving so quickly, the biggest issue is catching up to it", Licon said. The flames burned medium-to-light brush, with the acreage at 5 as of 3 p.m.

Some 300 firefighters responded, including some the US Forest Service said in a tweet were being transported by boat to the blaze.

As of this morning, Angeles National Forest information officer Nathan Judy reported that, for the most part, the area is smoldering mostly in the interior part of the affected area.

The wind speed dropped significantly as evening approached, he said.

Several blazes broke out across the state as temperatures soared this weekend.
